Schedule a Mental Health Appointment

SHCS offers short-term counseling for all registered students and enrollees, up to 10 visits per academic year.

To make an appointment with a therapist, please walk in to either the Parnassus or Mission Bay clinic during business hours and ask for a nurse consult. You will then meet with one of our nurses who will request some information about your concerns and schedule you an appointment with a therapist that best suits your needs.  Please note that scheduling is not done over the phone or e-mail in order to provide you with the best possible care.

Once you are scheduled with a therapist, please arrive on time for the appointment so that there is enough time to discuss your concerns. After your initial appointment you and your therapist will decide what services will be most helpful to you. These services may include individual or couples therapy at Student Health and Counseling Services and/or other campus and community resources.

To learn more about the mental health staff at SHCS, see Mental Health Staff Profiles.

If you're interested in information about your insurance benefits for mental health services outside of SHCS, please see Mental Health Coverage.

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of counseling and psychological services. You have a right to privacy and your written permission must be obtained before we will release information to anyone outside of our clinic, with only limited legal and ethical exceptions. We want you to be aware that counseling records are maintained separately from any other records of the University – including academic, educational and job placement records. If you have questions or concerns about confidentiality, we encourage you to discuss them with our staff.
