FAQ
Q: What is Guided Imagery?
A: Guided imagery is a program of directed thoughts and suggestions that guide your imagination toward a relaxed, focused state. Guided imagery is based on the concept that your body and mind are connected. You can achieve a relaxed state when you imagine a safe, comfortable place, such as a beach or garden. This relaxed state may aid healing, learning, creativity, and performance. You can use it to promote relaxation, which can lower blood pressure and reduce other problems related to stress. It may help you feel more in control of your emotions and though processes, which may improve your attitude, health, and sense of well-being. (Taken from www.webmd.com.)
Q: What is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy?
A: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an empirically supported treatment that focuses on patterns of thinking that are maladaptive and the beliefs that underlie such thinking.(Taken from www.nami.org)
Q: What is Grounding?
A: Grouding is a set of simple strategies to detach from emotional pain (ie: sadness, anger, anxiety.) Disctractions work by focusing outward on the external world rather than inward toward your self. Grounding helps you attain a balance between the consciousness of your reality and your ability to tolerate it.(Adapted from Seeking Safety, by L.M. Najavits, Ph.D.)
