Urgent Care Options


SHCS (if open):
  • If SHCS if open, contact the clinic for advice or a phone appointment. If you need to be seen off campus SHCS can make sure you have the appropriate referrals. SHCS phone number: 415-476-1281
  • Remember that SHCS offers evening appointments several days per week!

UCSF Acute Care and Screening Clinic:
  • UCSF Medical Center – Parnassus campus
  • Walk-in clinic, open weekday evenings until 8 p.m. and on Saturdays until 4 p.m. Closed on Sundays.
  • Closed Christmas and New Year’s Day
  • UC SHIP students pay a $25 copay

LiveHealth Online:
  • NEW SERVICE! UCSF students can access LiveHealth Online (LHO) for an online provider visit for urgent care needs.
  • UC SHIP students will be charged their urgent care copay of $25. Non-UC SHIP enrollees can also access the service for $49. Just enter your UC SHIP member number when logging in to the site.
  • Please be ready to enter SHCS’s email ([email protected]) when logging in to LHO so your clinical summary is forwarded to your chart for continuity of care.

  • Click here to connect to LiveHealth Online. Create an account and have your UC SHIP membership numbers (starts with XDP) ready to enter. You may also access LHO from your smartphone by searching for the LiveHealth Online Mobile app.



If you experience a mental health emergency – proceed to the closest emergency room. For non-emergent needs:

If SHCS is open:
  • SHCS encourages students with an urgent mental health concern to connect with us as soon as possible.
  • Call or walk in to either the Parnassus or Mission Bay Student Health and Counseling Service.
  • • If you wish to schedule an appointment at a future date, call SHCS and ask for an appointment. If you feel your concern is urgent, just inform the staff.

If SHCS is closed
  • If you feel your situation is urgent (thoughts of harming yourself or others for example) go to the closest emergency room.
  • You can also get support anytime from the 24/7 Mental Health Crisis Line. Call SHCS (415-476-1281) and choose option 7. You will be connected to a service staffed by non-SHCS counselors who can assist you.



Are referrals needed for urgent care?:

Always seek a referral from SHCS to ensure payment and so that SHCS may provide you with follow-up care

  • For urgent care locations that bill as urgent care – you do NOT NEED a referral.
  • For urgent care centers that bill as primary care – you NEED a REFRRAL. To get retro-authorization, request that the visit notes (medical record) be sent to Student Health as soon as possible. For more information, visit ER/Urgent Care Claims
  • LiveHealth Online does NOT require a referral.
