Professional Experience
Gaby joined UCSF SHCS in January, 2021. Prior to joining the Student Health & Counseling Services team, she worked at Rush University Medical Center and UI Health and Hospital Systems, two large medical centers in Chicago. Her clinical experience includes treating people of all ages as a board-certified Family Physician, teaching medical students and residents as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine, and providing medical care to the student populations at the University of Illinois as an Attending Physician. Gaby worked as an insurance administrator at Social Security Administration and at the National Alzheimer’s Association Headquarters in the field of organizational development before pursuing a career in medicine,.

Special Area of Focus
“As a board certified family physician, I have enjoyed being exposed to a wide breadth of conditions, but I can’t say I’ve seen it all. Through these experiences, I have developed a special interest in Women’s Health and Mental Health. I am happy to support my patients along their path of emotional and physical well-being.”

Other Interests
Coffee and all the ways of making it, travel, listening to and trying to speak other languages, balancing time between work, friends, family and my own interests.

 

Elizabeth Hedelman, MD

Professional Experience
Dr Hedelman has worked as a physician in Student Health since 1995. Prior to joining UCSF in 2021, she worked in the Urgent Care and Primary Care Clinics at UC Berkeley’s University Health Services. She has special clinical interests in mental health, preventive medicine, and women’s health.

 

Jill Boroniec, MD

Professional Experience
Dr. Boroniec has worked in a variety of settings including Federally Qualified Health Centers, academic medical institutions and in telehealth. She believes in a patient-centered and collaborative approach to primary care. She sees herself as a partner to her patients on their journey to health and wellness. A lifelong learner and inspired by her patients’ desire for expanded treatment options, she recently completed a fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (AIHM).

Lisa DiGiorgio-Haag, MSN, NP

Nurse Practitioner

Professional Experience
Lisa has been a Nurse Practitioner for over 30 years. For most of her NP career she has worked with a student health population. She has also worked in Adolescent Medicine at Juvenile Hall where she ran a research study focusing on sexual health. She also provided care to prostitutes in San Francisco at a specialty clinic and also at SFGH. As an RN Lisa worked in neurosurgery and pediatrics.

Special Area of Focus
Lisa started our IUD program here over 5 years ago and has placed over 400 IUDs to date. She has a specialty in Women’s Health and has counseled many patients regarding sexual satisfaction and concern. She had an audioblog called SexTalk which is available on our website.

Lisa is actively involved in our PrEP program, providing pre exposure prophylaxis to those who are at risk for HIV. She also enjoys providing primary care to all patients.

Other Interests
Lisa enjoys travel and has been to Europe, Asia, India many times and has also lived in China. She is a photographer and writer. She is married and has 2 boys.

 

Alexa Putrus, Sr. LVN

Professional Experience
Alexa started her nursing career at a small, but busy ENT office in Greenbrae, Ca where she was able to learn a multitude of skills that she now brings to UCSF Student Health and Counseling. Alexa strives to provide each of her patients with competent, compassionate, safe, and high-quality care.

Special Area of Focus
Alexa has a special interest in Women’s Health and has the goal of becoming an RN in Labor and Delivery.

Other Interests
Alexa enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her dog Buster. She enjoys reading, dancing, and weekend-trips. Summer time is where you’ll find her outdoors enjoying her favorite activities- boating, wakeboarding, and wake-surfing.
