Jessica has a wide range of experience in the field of nutrition. She has held nutrition positions for the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene and Kings County Hospital Center in New York City. Before joining UCSF, Jessica worked as an Outpatient Dietitian at a primary care clinic within Alameda Health System. Additionally, Jessica has over 10 years of experience as a journalist, and has written numerous nutrition articles for SELF, Buzzfeed, Today’s Dietitian and more.
Special Area of Focus
In addition to being a Registered Dietitian, Jessica is a Certified Diabetes Educator, with an interest in Diabetes management and prevention within diverse patient populations. She holds a Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management and has a special interest in helping people achieve their happy weight, with an emphasis on Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size. As a 20-year vegetarian, Jessica has a passion for promoting the power of plant-based eating with a practical, individualized approach. Jessica uses compassion as the backbone for her nutrition counseling and hones in on motivational interviewing as a successful tool for evoking long-term behavior change.
Jessica loves using media as a platform for distributing evidenced-based nutrition information. In 2012, Jessica co-founded Food Heaven Made Easy, a nutrition and lifestyle website with a healthy cooking/nutrition web-series. Jessica also co-hosts a biweekly nutrition podcast and released her first cookbook, The 28-Day Plant-Powered Health Reboot, in January of 2017. In her spare time, Jones loves to tour open houses, travel to international destinations, and get a good night’s sleep (9 hours to be exact).
