Notice: UC-wide Influenza Vaccine Requirement

Both the San Francisco and Alameda Departments of Public Health require all health care workers and learners to receive or affirmatively decline* the annual influenza vaccine by October 31, 2021.

In addition, UCOP has issued an order requiring any member of the UC community who are living, learning, or working on premises at any University facility to receive or affirmatively decline influenza vaccination no later than November 19.

Beginning October 25, 2021, UCSF Occupational Health Services (OHS) is extending its drop-in flu shot clinics at Parnassus Heights and Mission Bay campuses. At UCSF Fresno, free flu shots are available at the COVID-19 Equity Project at 550 E. Shaw Ave. in Fresno. Faculty and trainees at UCSF Fresno who work at Community Medical Centers (CMC) may also get flu shots at CMC’s vaccine clinics.**

Learners who received their vaccination from a UCSF Flu Clinic or Deputy (or the SHCS clinic) will be sent an email confirmation within 48-72 hours, and the record is automatically submitted to UC.

SHCS also accepts outside flu shot records. Learners who received their vaccination outside of UCSF must upload the documentation of their shot via the document upload function in the student portal.

Getting your flu vaccination this year is particularly important. As the world struggles to manage COVID-19, this year’s flu season has the potential to compound the pressure on hospitals and health systems, and cause unnecessary illness and suffering.

*Students who decline a flu vaccine must complete and submit the declination form found in the downloadable forms section of the student portal. Students who decline vaccination must follow Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) requirements. The Dean of students will be notified of anyone in their program who declines vaccination.

**Please note: Students should receive their vaccines at the OHS flu fairs, private physician or pharmacy. SHCS does not stock the vaccine in large quantities. A limited supply will be available for students and SHCS staff that are unable to receive it prior to the deadline of October 31, 2021.

Please visit the CDC Flu page for the most updated information and protocol regarding this season's influenza virus.

All members of the UCSF community are encouraged to monitor travel and risk updates on the CDC's information for travel webpage. Return to campus following international travel must be cleared by SHCS. Please view our COVID-19 Care Protocols page for more information.
