Pediatric Benefits

Eligible students, scholars and researchers may enroll their dependent children in the University of California Student Health Insurance Plan (UC-SHIP). Benefits for children are nearly equivalent for children and other dependents.

Student Health & Counseling does not provide care for dependent children 18 or younger, and therefore enrolled dependent children must use an outside provider. It is recommended that enrolled dependent children utilize a network provider for primary and specialty care. To enroll your child in the UC SHIP, please complete the Voluntary UC SHIP Application.

    • A newly-acquired, natural-born dependent child will be covered under the plan for the first 30 days after the birth date of the newborn child with the enrollee(s). Coverage for such child will be for Sickness and Injury, including medically diagnosed congenital defects, birth abnormalities, prematurity and nursery care. If the child is not enrolled within 31 days of birth, the maximum coverage is $25,000 per year. Call Anthem at 1-800-257-4860 for pricing.
